Gallery Crawl

We will be touring the main galleries of Leamington Spa as a society, a good chance to socialise and talk about the art we all see together, as well as the soak in the beauty of Leamington itself. Led by our new social secretaries Elyse and Sophie!

Our first Back-to-Back event

For those who want to get really involved, both socially and artistically, we are hosting a bar crawl right after life drawing. Also perfectly fine to do either or!

This Term’s Workshops and Events

In this section, our exec can show off our recent workshops, capturing the art made and the vibes of our events.

Group of people working on a large collaborative autumn-themed art project on a wall, with Halloween and fall decorations.
A young man painting a mural on a wall decorated with fall-themed illustrations, including sunflowers, leaves, a pumpkin, and various cartoon animals and characters.
A large canvas covered with various autumn-themed drawings and stickers, displayed on wooden stands indoors.

We started the year off strong with our big collaborative canvas event, which was the largest-scale event in Art Soc history! We had over 120 people contribute to the work, and considering the weeks-long time the work was in display in the foyer it will have been seen by thousands of people. This workshop was all about sharing the space to be creative together,

People sitting at tables in a restaurant or cafe, engaged in conversation and using their phones, with a stage and black curtains in the background.

Our first drink and draw of the year was huge! and lots of fun.

Art supplies on a wooden table, including a pencil drawing of multiple faces with various expressions, a colorful illustration of a pink flower and a red object on paper, a smartphone, a ruler, and a box of chalk or pastels.
Clay sculpture of a face with a surprised expression, sample sculpture on table in art class.
Clay sculptures of an owl and a cat placed on newspaper with colorful magazines nearby, with people working on additional sculptures in the background.
People sitting around a table involved in a clay modeling activity, with clay and tools on newspapers spread on the table.

Our clay workshop had an attendance of about 60 people, it’s always a popular one. In future, we may do a follow-up workshop where people can paint their sculptures

A vibrant painted landscape of a countryside scene with yellow fields, green and orange trees, a small dark barn, and a clear blue sky with white clouds.

The Bob Ross Paint-Along events we hold are always a huge success - this year around 70 people attended. It is always so interesting to see how people’s personal styles stand out despite all following the same tutorial.

A landscape painting featuring a small wooden house with a rusted roof, surrounded by lush green trees and bushes. A stream flows in the foreground with white spray, under a blue sky with some clouds.
A group of diverse students in a classroom holding up their landscape paintings during an art class.
A small watercolor painting of a sky with dark clouds, a row of flowers, and orange flames at the bottom, placed on top of newspapers.
An impressionistic painting of two orange fish, one swimming above the other, against a dark and colorful background with abstract shapes and spots.

Our Canvas Swap activity was really fun to do. It’s all about making a low-pressure environment to just chat and paint whilst creating some really unique pieces.

Black and white print of a whale among horizontal lines, repeated twice on a piece of paper.
Black and white linocut style print of a deer with a bird standing on its back, held by a person in a room with tables, newspapers, and people working or browsing in the background.
A black and white stencil-style print of a fishing tackle box with two fish inside, placed on a newspaper and a notebook, with some art supplies nearby.
Black and white linocut print of a dinosaur, likely a Tyrannosaurus rex, on a textured background.

Lino Cut Printing Class

This was Art Soc’s first ever ‘Class’ event, where we increased the price of tickets in order to buy new materials for a more special and original experience, which enabled Kaitlyn, our workshop coordinator, to lead the class with her creative expertise on printmaking. It was an amazing, sold out event, and we certainly hope to do more classes in the future!

Black tote bag with a chalk drawing of a butterfly on it, placed on a white table with a small glass of beer nearby.
Black T-shirt with orange spider web and spider design
A maroon tank top with gold-colored intricate tribal or ornamental design laid flat on a white surface. The design features symmetrical swirling patterns, hearts, and star-like shapes.
Black tank top with orange swirl and line pattern, held by person with multiple rings, displayed against a white background.

Bleach on Fabric Class

Our president, Jago, also led a class on Bleach painting on fabric, offering the unique experience of painting permanent artworks on either up-cycled clothes or provided tote bags. Those attending made some very creative designs, it was such a fun session

Painting of a house surrounded by greenery, with a garden in front and a tall tree on the left, painted in a loose impressionistic style.
People painting a house on a canvas with acrylic paints, surrounded by newspapers and paint palettes.
Two watercolor paintings of an old stone house with white window frames surrounded by greenery and pink flowers, with one painting showing a river or stream nearby.
A watercolor painting of a house with a garden, pink flowers, and a tree, placed on newspapers on a table.

Cottage landscape Masterclass with Adam Tucker

Adam came and taught his second masterclass with us this term, again in acrylic paint on canvas. He shared with us the details of his process, in his own words, the really useful stuff which no one teaches you in art school. Stuff like colour-mixing with Payne’s grey rather than black to keep the richness of the darker colours, as well as tips for brushwork for different textures and surfaces - which seem to have been picked up very effectively in the above images!

Rolling Exhibition of Society Artists

Welcome to our online (open application) gallery, curated by our president. This page is for showing off the artists of Art Soc giving them the platform they deserve. Find the submission form below to submit your own works to this gallery

Kaitlyn Faulkner

Origami paper scene of a forest with trees, animals including a deer, fox, swans, rabbits, a river, and flowers.

A Glimpse of Nature, April 2025. (left)

The chirping birds and flowing streams through Crackley Wood behind Cryfield inspired me to capture this harmony in the form of Origami. The 50 figures in this piece are all hand painted and folded by me, with inspiration taken from the artist Jo Nakashima. This piece was exhibited in the Herbert Museum in Coventry as part of the 2025 Coventry Open.

Decorative lamp with a folded paper design emitting a warm yellow glow, placed on a wooden surface in a dimly lit room.

Tessellation Lantern, October 2025.

I love the warm glow of lights, especially in the winter period. I made this piece using 30 pieces of paper cut into the same shape. When fitted together, they tesselate into this amazing puzzle.

A sunset over a beach with waves and clouds painted in pastel shades of pink, purple, blue, and yellow.

Sunset at Sea, February 2025

My favourite thing to paint are seascapes. This particular one was created in an Acrylic Masterclass with Art Society and Adam Tucker last academic year.

Sophie Zhu

A monochrome painting of multiple overlapping faces of women with closed eyes, blending into an abstract background.

07/2025:

I did a few pieces involving masks and glass as a way to show the disconnect between the inner and outer presentations of a person’s psyche

A black and white drawing of a person with their hands covering their face and head, with dreadlocks visible on top.

06/2025:

This was one of my first pieces using soft pastels so it was interesting exploring a new medium whilst portraying an emotion very familiar to myself

A grayscale drawing of a child with short hair, holding a glass of dark liquid, possibly coffee or soda, in front of their face. The child's face is reflected in the glass, creating a layered visual effect, with their left eye visible through the glass and their right eye directly visible in the background.

07/2025:

I tend to prefer darker, slightly unsettling references that mean something to me and the way the glass distorts the boy’s expression interested me

Jago Hill

@JagoHillArtworks
A vibrant abstract painting of a sunset over water, with swirling textures and bold brushstrokes in gold, orange, yellow, blue, and black.

Translucent Seascape at sunset, Paphos, 07/2025

This is my first pastel on glass, I novel technique I have used to capture the luminosity of the sun, where the intended display of the piece is as a sun-catcher in the window.

An impressionistic painting of a sunset over a body of water, with colorful sky, clouds, and reflections on the water.
A colorful sunset over a beach with waves crashing on the shore.

Seascape at Early Dusk, Paphos, 06/2025

This is a further back view of the sea, for this one I particularly focused on the varieties of colour in the reflective water and moody clouds set against the fading sunlight.

Seascape at late Dusk, Paphos, 06/2025

I tried very hard in this piece to capture the energy in the sea and sky, though different textures in the application of my pastels, the sky being very blended, the sea, high contrast and full of linework.
