Upcoming events
See this section for our calendar as well as extra details on the events our exec are most excited for (Below).
Gallery Crawl
We will be touring the main galleries of Leamington Spa as a society, a good chance to socialise and talk about the art we all see together, as well as the soak in the beauty of Leamington itself. Led by our new social secretaries Elyse and Sophie!
Our first Back-to-Back event
For those who want to get really involved, both socially and artistically, we are hosting a bar crawl right after life drawing. Also perfectly fine to do either or!
This Term’s Workshops and Events
In this section, our exec can show off our recent workshops, capturing the art made and the vibes of our events.
We started the year off strong with our big collaborative canvas event, which was the largest-scale event in Art Soc history! We had over 120 people contribute to the work, and considering the weeks-long time the work was in display in the foyer it will have been seen by thousands of people. This workshop was all about sharing the space to be creative together,
Our first drink and draw of the year was huge! and lots of fun.
Our clay workshop had an attendance of about 60 people, it’s always a popular one. In future, we may do a follow-up workshop where people can paint their sculptures
The Bob Ross Paint-Along events we hold are always a huge success - this year around 70 people attended. It is always so interesting to see how people’s personal styles stand out despite all following the same tutorial.
Our Canvas Swap activity was really fun to do. It’s all about making a low-pressure environment to just chat and paint whilst creating some really unique pieces.
Lino Cut Printing Class
This was Art Soc’s first ever ‘Class’ event, where we increased the price of tickets in order to buy new materials for a more special and original experience, which enabled Kaitlyn, our workshop coordinator, to lead the class with her creative expertise on printmaking. It was an amazing, sold out event, and we certainly hope to do more classes in the future!
Bleach on Fabric Class
Our president, Jago, also led a class on Bleach painting on fabric, offering the unique experience of painting permanent artworks on either up-cycled clothes or provided tote bags. Those attending made some very creative designs, it was such a fun session
Cottage landscape Masterclass with Adam Tucker
Adam came and taught his second masterclass with us this term, again in acrylic paint on canvas. He shared with us the details of his process, in his own words, the really useful stuff which no one teaches you in art school. Stuff like colour-mixing with Payne’s grey rather than black to keep the richness of the darker colours, as well as tips for brushwork for different textures and surfaces - which seem to have been picked up very effectively in the above images!
Rolling Exhibition of Society Artists
Welcome to our online (open application) gallery, curated by our president. This page is for showing off the artists of Art Soc giving them the platform they deserve. Find the submission form below to submit your own works to this gallery

A Glimpse of Nature, April 2025. (left)
The chirping birds and flowing streams through Crackley Wood behind Cryfield inspired me to capture this harmony in the form of Origami. The 50 figures in this piece are all hand painted and folded by me, with inspiration taken from the artist Jo Nakashima. This piece was exhibited in the Herbert Museum in Coventry as part of the 2025 Coventry Open.
Tessellation Lantern, October 2025.
I love the warm glow of lights, especially in the winter period. I made this piece using 30 pieces of paper cut into the same shape. When fitted together, they tesselate into this amazing puzzle.
Sunset at Sea, February 2025
My favourite thing to paint are seascapes. This particular one was created in an Acrylic Masterclass with Art Society and Adam Tucker last academic year.
Sophie Zhu
07/2025:
I did a few pieces involving masks and glass as a way to show the disconnect between the inner and outer presentations of a person’s psyche
06/2025:
This was one of my first pieces using soft pastels so it was interesting exploring a new medium whilst portraying an emotion very familiar to myself
07/2025:
I tend to prefer darker, slightly unsettling references that mean something to me and the way the glass distorts the boy’s expression interested me

Translucent Seascape at sunset, Paphos, 07/2025
This is my first pastel on glass, I novel technique I have used to capture the luminosity of the sun, where the intended display of the piece is as a sun-catcher in the window.
Seascape at Early Dusk, Paphos, 06/2025
This is a further back view of the sea, for this one I particularly focused on the varieties of colour in the reflective water and moody clouds set against the fading sunlight.
Seascape at late Dusk, Paphos, 06/2025
I tried very hard in this piece to capture the energy in the sea and sky, though different textures in the application of my pastels, the sky being very blended, the sea, high contrast and full of linework.
